Peoria Airport Losing FedEx

FedEx is pulling its central Illinois hub out of Peoria’s airport and moving it to the airport in Bloomington. FedEx spokesman Scott Fiedler says the switch will allow the company to upgrade its overnight service to more than 100 zip codes.

The Bloomington-Normal Airport Authority recently agreed to invest $5 million for the FedEx hub there. The move will strike a blow to cargo business at Peoria’s airport. FedEx and UPS are its main cargo carriers.

Fiedler says all employees at the Peoria hub will be able to keep their jobs at the new location.
