More Ideas to Restrict Sex Offenders

More Ideas to Restrict Sex Offenders

Illinois lawmakers are considering pieces of legislation to fill in gaps in the state’s sex offender laws. One measure would require convicted sex offenders who lose their jobs to update their registration with state police. Another would ban sex offenders from attending county fairs. They would, however, still be allowed to attend the state fair. Both measures were introduced after lawmakers said they encountered holes in the current statutes. In one case, charges against a sex offender were dismissed in McLean County because of ambiguity over when people had to report a change in employment. The proposal related to county fairs came at the request of officials in Whiteside County.
