Teresa Haley, Springfield chapter president of the NAACP says the birthplace of the organization is recognizing the holiday with a march downtown Monday.

“At eleven o’clock, the NAACP will be hosting the unity march at the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church,” says Haley.  “It is important we keep Dr. King’s dream alive and remeber where we were.”

Other events include a breakfast at 7:30 Monday morning at the downtown Hilton.  Haley says she hopes parents will bring their children to events to commerate the civil rights leader.

Haley adds racism is still a problem in the community and hopes events like this will be teaching moments for parents instead of just a school holiday.
