After nearly three years of anticipation and numerous setbacks, HyVee has finally announced when its new Springfield store will open: Tuesday, May 13th at 6 a.m.

The company made the announcement on its Facebook page Monday morning.

The store took over the long shuttered K-Mart building on MacArthur Boulevard and rehabbed it. It also bought a service station across the street and a long closed bowling alley.

Proponents say it’s a major step toward revitalizing the entire area.
