The price of a gallon of gas would go down, under a proposal a state lawmaker is sponsoring. State Rep. Sue Scherer (D-Decatur) wants to repeal the state’s sales tax on gasoline.

“The working class is overtaxed and pays more than their fair share of the burden,” says Scherer,“and, I hate to say it, but it’s the truth: the very tippy-top have all kinds of perks that the working class doesn’t have, and by giving these people a little bit of a break on their gas tax, then that would give them an opportunity to take that money, and put it into other things in our economy.”

Scherer says she hopes that with the pension question out of the way for now, that lawmakers have time to consider her idea in 2014.
