Lieutenant Governor Candidates Debate

In their only televised debate, some of the Republican candidates for lieutenant governor had to address lawsuits – their own or ones against their running mate.

On the debate broadcast by WTTW-TV on Thursday, State Treasurer Dan Rutherford’s running mate, Steve Kim, said he’s satisfied with Rutherford’s response to the allegations of sexual harassment and political pressure against him.

“He has told me none of it is true, and I believe in him, and I trust in him, but the biggest problem with this is that it’s distracted us from talking about the issues,” Kim said.

Evelyn Sanguinetti, who is running alongside Bruce Rauner, was asked about her lawsuit against her hometown of Wheaton after she slipped on a patch of ice. She says she didn’t keep the settlement money.

“I donated everything to Illinois Support Our Troops,” Sanguinetti said.”Not a penny to my home, or to me, or to a campaign sign when I was running for (Wheaton) City Council.”

This is the first time in the state’s history that the candidates for governor and lieutenant governor are running on the same ticket in the primary.
