I-55 Cycle Crash Kills Two

Both the driver and passenger lost their lives in a motorcycle crash on Interstate 55 in Springfield Sunday afternoon, state police said.

The driver was a 48-year-old man from Normal, and the passenger was a 35-year-old woman from Colfax.

Police say around 2:30, the northbound cycle slowed to avoid another crash. The driver lost control, and the cycle wound up on its side against some retaining wires. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and the passenger died later at a hospital.

The accident scene was between the Stevenson and Taylorville exits.
