Some young adults in Illinois are trying to make the season bright for those who can’t be home.
The FFA of Illinois has packed 143 parcels with snacks, toiletries, games, and other goods for members of the armed forces.
“Both brothers served a tour in Afghanistan, and one brother served a tour in Iraq,” said FFA state president Sam Detwiler, who lives near Flanagan. “I know firsthand how much of an impact those packages have on those soldiers over there that get those. It’s uplifting and keeps their thoughts positive.”
Detwiler says FFA members collected the items and postage money. They dropped off the packages at the U.S. Postal Service’s mail sorting facility on east Cook St. Monday.
