Durbin, Schock react to ISIS

Durbin, Schock react to ISIS

The reaction is partisan from U..S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and U.S. Rep. Aaron Schock (R-Peoria) to the beheading of American journalist James Foley.

Schock says the ISIS crisis is “emblematic” of a failed foreign policy” and shows the president’s strategy to “lead from behind.” And, he says, the U.S. is leaving forces behind.

Durbin is more supportive of the administration. “We need to work to bring whoever was responsible for this to justice – but this is a war, an Iraqi war, that can only be won by Iraqis. We can help, but they have to show the leadership and bring the troops.”

Durbin’s said this before – how will this be different? “ISIS advanced quickly.. It clearly had more resources and more power than anticipated, “ he says. “Our military advisors are helping the Iraqi army get in place and defend territory. Our air support is helping them as well.”
