Downtown Festivals Could Get a Tune-Up

Weather is hurting the finances of Downtown Springfield Incorporated’s sponsored events.

But Executive Director Victoria Ringer says some of the tried-and-true events such as the Taste of Downtown may need a tune-up.

“Festivals are happening all the time in Springfield.  You can find a food and music festival any time, which is a great thing,” says Ringer.  “They can always be revamped.   The bigger issue is our revenue stream need to be diversified so we are not so weather dependent.”

Ringer says her organization is also having to assume costs for these events that the City of Springfield previously provided free such as water and electricity.

She says DSI is not in business to just put on festivals; it is about promoting the downtown area. She’s still optimistic about the future.
