The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Race will now extend beyond the March primary — a Democrat has entered the race.

Assuming no one else jumps in, Springfield native Jeff Regan will challenge either Wes Barr or Jack Campbell in this year’s general election. Regan’s platform includes “three pillars,” which he lists as collaboration, asset management and personnel development.

Regan started his law enforcement career in 1983 as a public safety officer with the Springfield Airport Authority Police, he’s also a 23 year military veteran, retiring from the Illinois National Guard as a Lieutenant Colonel.
