Crops Are Making Good Progress and Are in Good Shape

Another week of good weather conditions, good crop conditions, and favorable progress is behind us.

The USDA’s crop statistics service says the condition is good-to-excellent in 82 percent of corn and 78 percent of soybeans. Corn silking is ahead of average, as are soybeans blooming and setting pods.

There’s still time for things to go wrong, though.

“Mother Nature can throw a lot of things at us,” says Doug Hartwig, Heartland District manager of the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. “Hopefully not, and farmers can get a good crop in the bin.”

The fall crop yield forecast is due out in two weeks.
