City to Hire Private Investigator?

If you are a city employee and are drawing workers’ compensation, you may want to look over your shoulder from time to time.  Springfield Budget Director Bill McCarty says the proposed budget for next year includes money to hire a private investigator to make sure terms of those agreements are being adhered to.

“What we are talking about doing is utilizing a private investigator to go out and look at alledged instances of workers’ compensation fraud. In other words, perhaps someone is out on workers’ comp but they are out golfing” says McCarty.

The city pays out several 6-figure claims a year to those injured on the job.  McCarty says “99-9 percent” of them are legitimate and says the 50-thousand dollars he is seeking will be money well-spent.
