Child Hit By Train on Springfield’s North End

A child playing near the railroad tracks was hit by a passing train, but she’s expected to be okay.

Police and fire blocked off the area near 8th and Converse in Springfield for much of Thursday afternoon. Fire Chief Ken Fustin says three children were playing “chicken” near the tracks, and one of them got clipped. She was taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries and is expected to be okay.

The other two children weren’t hurt.
