Bloomington Child Killed by Pit Bulls

Bloomington police are investigating the death of a 4-year-old girl whom authorities say was killed in an attack by at least two of the family’s pit bulls.

McLean County Coroner Beth Kimmerling says Kara Hartrich of Bloomington died Friday at a hospital in Normal shortly after the attack.

Kimmerling says preliminary information suggests that the girl was home with a younger sibling and grandparent when the dogs mauled her.

Kimmerling says three dogs described by their owners as pit bulls — two males and a female — were seized by the county’s animal control officers. Funeral arrangements are pending.
