KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — LEDs are likely to be twinkling on a lot more Christmas trees this year.

The high-tech lights have been around for years. But they’ve recently dropped in price.

The Kansas City Star reports Walmart is devoting half of its shelf space for Christmas lights to LEDs.

EXTRA: Black Friday 2013

A string of 50 mini LED lights is going for $5, down from $6.30 last year.

Costco isn’t selling any incandescent Christmas lights. LEDs are not only costing less, they use less electricity, too.
