In just a few short moments, police pulled over more than a dozen motorists that weren’t wearing their seatbelts. County and Springfield law enforcement officials were stationed along North Dirksen Parkway Tuesday morning for a compliance check. Sangamon County Undersheriff Jack Campbell says it is all about safety.
“We are not being sneaky about it. We want people to comply with the law. It is not a revenue source. It is going to cost us more in hire-back money than what we will generate” says Campbell.
Safety checkpoints will be setup around the state through the holiday season. All passengers in a vehicle, front seat and back, are required to be buckled up. Spotters will be stationed along roadways and will radio ahead to patrol cars.
