White’s Organ Donor Program Wins Two Awards

Secretary of State Jesse White’s Organ/Tissue Donor Public Awareness Campaign won two awards this week.

The program was recognized during the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) Region III Conference in St. Louis, Missouri. The first award was for a 2012 radio commercial for focusing on 15-year-old Cortez Lutrell, whose younger brother Henri died at age 16. Henri’s organs were donated to help five other individuals receive a second chance at life. The second award honors an article in the Life Goes On newsletter called “The Employee Connection,” which highlights employees who have benefited from organ or tissue donation.

It’s easy to become an organ donor in the State of Illinois, according Jesse White.

“There are 138 facilities scattered throughout the state of Illinois where you can come in and get your driver’s license, state ID, ect. You can indicate to us if you’d like to be part of the organ and tissue donor program.”

Currently, more than 5.3 million people are registered on Illinois’ Organ/Tissue Donor Registry. To join the registry, visit www.LifeGoesOn.com.
