The U-S Supreme Court struck down the federal Defense of Marriage Act Wednesday but with that ruling, Illinois still may lag behind much of the nation. That’s according to Jonna Cooley of Springfield’s Phoenix Center.
“It doesn’t change any thing for us. We don’t have the option for marriage here” according to Cooley.
The high court upheld a lower court ruling, allowing gay marriage to resume in California … and it strikes down part of the federal Defense of Marriage Act.
Bishop Thomas John Paprocki of the Catholic Diocese of Springfield, on the other hand, decried the rulings, calling same sex marriage an “intrinsic evil.”
