Wells Fargo is laying off 74 workers in Springfield.
A company spokeswoman confirmed the employees were informed today, 60 days in advance of their termination date. Come mid-September, spokeswoman Cristie Drumm says some employees will have opportunities elsewhere in the company, though it’s unclear how many, if any, jobs will be in the Springfield area.
She says a slowdown in the mortgage lending business is to blame.
Drumm says some employees may be eligible for salary continuance if they can’t find work elsewhere in the company. Wells Fargo employs more than 900 in Springfield.
