United Way of Central Illinois Donates $1.7 Million

39 local programs received about $1.7 million from the United Way.

The United Way of Central Illinois invested the money in programs that provide health or human services. The group’s president, John Kelker, says 1.7 million seems like a lot … but $900,000 in requests had to be turned down.

The United Way received requests for more than $2.5 million. This year the group funded four new programs.
