The 2013 Annual Tree of Lights Campaign is now in full swing. The Springfield Chapter Salvation Army says their goal is $455,000 to meet a growing need. Corps Officer Major Steven Woodard says his organization is seeing more individuals and families at their door needing more than just food.
“The Salvation Army distributed food to over 16,000 people in 2012 but, the hunger problem in Sangamon County is not the only way the Salvation helps and supports our neighbors and our friend” Woodard says.
He says the Corps also has been providing utility vouchers, operating a homeless shelter and, providing clothing. This year, the Corps’ annual bell-ringing campaign is seeking more volunteers and locations. The Tree of Lights campaign provides more than have the Salvation Army’s annual budget.
