The cleanup and recovery is slow, but progressing in Washington, Illinois. It’s now estimated more than 1,000 homes were damaged or destroyed — up from the original estimate of 500.
Craig Gilson of Ameren Illinois says more than 45,000 lost power or gas service at the height of the storm. Gilson says crews are working around the clock to get power restored.
“As of today, we are running about 5500 customers mainly in the Washington and Pekin areas” according to Gilson.
The National Weather service says the Washington tornado was rated E-F4. with wind speeds up to 190 miles an hour.
