GOP Candidate Bruce Rauner is again pushing for term limits for lawmakers. Rauner acknowledges limits won’t solve all the problems but they will solve some.
“I think term limits are essential, even more critical in the most corrupt states. The power structures are so self-dealing. We need fresh ideas; people coming in for just the right reasons. People who want to serve the people for a short period and then get out,” says Rauner.
Rauner will try to get a constitutional amendment on the ballot for November of next year. Rauner is running in the Republican primary for governor against three other political figures who have been in Springfield for more than 20 years: State Sens. Kirk Dillard (R-Hinsdale) and Bill Brady (R-Bloomington) and state Treasurer Dan Rutherford, who spent 18 years in the General Assembly.
