Residents in the Springfield public school district are being encouraged to make their voices heard in the search for the next school superintendent.
Board member Scott MacFarland says a forum where people can ask questions needs a good turnout. He says it’s essential.
“We are trying to sell the district to them because these candidates both would be excellent superintendents.”
McFarland says District 186 needs to make sure that when an offer is made to one of the two candidates, they want to take it.
Members of the public can ask questions of Jennifer Gill, worked as an elementary school principal in Springfield as recently as two years ago. She now works in Normal.
The other finalist is Michael Popp from the Indian Prairie School District based in Aurora.
MacFarland hopes for a lot of public participation in the forum, taking place Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Grant Middle School, to show the candidates Springfield parents care about their kids’ education.
