If you have to dig or remove a tree after Sunday’s storms, you have a call to make first.
JULIE, which stands for Joint Utility Location Information for Excavators, is reminding Illinoisans to call 811 in order to find out if you could hit underground utility lines.
“Tree removal, fence post, foundation, shed and mailbox posts, there’s potential for incidents in any of those examples if a call to JULIE is not made first,” said Kevin Chmura, director of public relations for JULIE.
When a property owner or contractor calls 811 at least two days in advance, a JULIE agent can notify utility companies, who will send out a professional locator to mark where their underground utility lines are.
If homeowners prefer to file their own request, they can do so at www.illinois1call.com.
