Two major construction projects in Springfield will be funded by the state’s Illinois Jobs Now program.
The Illinois State Fairgrounds will have a number of key buildings receive replacement roofs. Nine barns near the Livestock Center and the Artisans Building will have their aging, leaking roofs replaced at a cost of $590,000.
The other project is aimed at improving traffic on the city’s south side. Nearly $1 million will be spent to widen and resurface 6th Street between Stevenson Drive and the 6th Street frontage road.
The improvements are needed to deal with the increased traffic being drawn by new development in the area.
