Springfield Park Board to Post Exec. Director Opening, Six Months Later
Springfield Park Board to Post Exec. Director Opening, Six Months Later

It’s been six months since Springfield Park District Executive Director Mike Stratton resigned and Derek Harms took over on an interim basis. The Park Board is just now beginning to post ads looking for a permanent director.

In a special meeting, the board agreed to post the opening on various park district organization websites, plus one run of small ads in local newspapers. Board members are looking for someone with a strong financial background, as well as someone with vast parks and recreation experience.

“We were coming into our busiest time of the year and staff was just getting set to propose a budget for the next fiscal year,” said board member Sara Wojcicki-Jimenez, when asked why it took so long to post the opening. “Now that we are through that process we are moving the search forward.”

The board will wait to see what kind of responses these ads generate before spending more. After the first run of ads, the district has a little more than two-thousand dollars to spend on the search.
