Springfield Man Gets 18.5 Years for Injuring Baby

A Springfield man who severely injured his two-month old son has been sentenced to 18-and-a-half years in prison.

The State Journal-Register reports Demarco Elbert, 21,¬†told officers he took drugs and fell down the stairs with the child. The boy’s mother claims he now has cerebral palsy, vision problems and reduced mental capacity.

Prosecutors were able to prove Elbert beat the baby, and showed signs of previous abuse. He’ll have to serve at least 85 percent of his sentence.
