The Mutual Aid Box Alert System (MABAS) has been activated in the wake of Sunday deadly tornado outbreak, and Springfield firefighters are responding.
Chief Ken Fustin says ten Technical Rescue Team members and one Staff Chief are in Washington.
“There are plenty of MABAS teams sprinkled throughout the state, and I would suspect that most teams will be relieved within 24 to 48 hours,” says Fustin. “But again, that will be dictated by the command staff and command system that’s in place up in Washington.”
Fustin says his crews are providing secondary search support, which means they’ll look through destroyed buildings with a fine toothed comb. Champaign firefighters are also in Washington.
