Thanks to a sharp memory, Sangamon County deputies are questioning two Chatham teens in a recent rash of police impersonations.
The victim, a 79-year old Springfield man, says he was stopped by an SUV on Curran Road early Monday after the SUV flashed its lights. The car also had a yellow rotating light. One of the vehicle’s passengers got out and pointed something at the victim as if he had a gun and ordered the man out of the car. He refused. The suspects eventually left the scene.
The victim remembered the license plate number and Chatham police later located the car. The suspects were interviewed Tuesday and deputies found out other cases of police impersonation may also be involved.
No one has been charged yet.
