Proposed Ordinance Would Raise Aldermanic Pay Slightly

Springfield Aldermen may see their pay climb a little during the next term.  Alderman Joe McMenamin introduced an ordinance Tuesday night authorizing elected officials receive annual 1-percent increases beginning with the next council term.

“The aldermen have already been through a four year freeze. I’ve never asked for a permanent freeze.  I thought we should go through a yea,r year and a half freeze” says McMenamin.

The current wage freeze expires at the end of this term in May 2015.  The raise would also cover the mayor, clerk, and corporation counsel.
