Prison for bank ex-president


The former president of the Hartsburg State Bank – who began his career there in 1966 – is going to prison for embezzling more than $500,000. A federal judge Thursday ordered 66-year-old Bryson John Russell of Lincoln to pay restitution and serve two and a half years in federal prison. The U. S. Attorney’s office says Russell pleaded guilty earlier tis year, admitting that in 1992, he started taking cash from the bank to pay for personal items and obligations, leading to creating bank loans in the name of customers, even relatives. He had been president of the bank since 1989.
