The Illinois High School Association is advising schools to take extra precautions to avoid heat-related problems as prep football begins this weekend.
The season starts around the state this weekend. That includes dozens of games Saturday with high temperatures forecast in the 90s across most of Illinois.
The IHSA said in a news release Friday that football administrator Craig Anderson recommended that all of the officials working football games provide extra in-game timeouts for water breaks and have at least one per quarter. Anderson also advised officials to extend timeouts and the breaks at the ends of quarters for extra water breaks.
