Springfield’s power utility blames an “underground equipment failure” for a service outage that lasted a little more than an hour Tuesday morning on Springfield’s southeast side.
City Water Light and Power spokeswoman Amber Sabin says crews initially reported the problem as a “breaker failure” but later switched to generic underground equipment. It’s unclear what the equipment is and why it failed.
Sabin says 1,095 customers along Stevenson Drive as well as those along portions of Taylor and Stanton Avenues and Victoria Drive were affected. Most power was restored around 7:20 a.m. and Sabin expects all power is restored now.
