Police, Fire Service Enter 13th Annual Badges for Life Campaign

Local law enforcement and fire rescue will be gearing up for a friendly competition for the 13th annual “Badges for Life” blood drive.

“The Fire Service and Law Enforcement see first hand the need for blood,” says Tara Matheson, manager of donor relations at Central Illinois Community Blood Center.  “What a great way to help spread the word then to get them involve and really help vocalize the importance of the need.”

This year, the Springfield Police Department, Sangamon County Sheriff’s department and FBI will be going up against the Illinois Fire Marshals, Springfield firefighters and other area fire services.

Last year, firefighters took the victory. Overall there were 543 donations and 33 new donors. The competition is not limited to department employees, everyone is encouraged to participate. You can choose if you want your donation to be credited to law enforcement or firefighters.
