Springfield is a step closer to getting its outlet mall.
Aldermen gave preliminary approval to land use plans for the Outlets at Springfield, which will bring dozens of retail outlets to the Legacy Pointe development on south MacArthur Boulevard. Final approval next week is all but certain.
“It will attract a lot of people within a radius of Springfield who do not come here normally to shop,” says Mayor Mike Houston. “Those will be additional sales tax dollars, just as Scheels is bringing in more sales tax dollars to the community.”
Because the development is in Legacy Pointe, each store will generate the higher 9 percent sales tax rate in effect for that area. Officials expect the outlets to be open by next Spring.
