The Outlets at Springfield is starting to take shape.
“They will probably have 80 to 90 outlet stores featuring a lot of mall shoppers are familiar with,” said Springfield Economic Development Director Mike Farmer. “Leases are still being signed as we speak.”
Some of the bigger names slated to open in mid 2014 are Coach, Brooks Brothers, Jones New York, American Eagle, J. Crew, Crocs, Claires, Kitchen Collection, Famous Footwear, GAP, Banana Republic and more.
Farmer believes the Outlets at Springfield, once filled to capacity, will make Springfield more of a destination — plans are in the works for at least one hotel in the area.
“There’s a Holiday Inn Express that’s on the drawing board across the street from Scheels,” said Farmer. “Certainly once the density gets to the point where you’re going to need an overnight stay, then sure.”
