It apparently took the threat of a lawsuit by a video gambling company so, Sherman Village Trustees decided the cost of litigation outweighed the benefits of allowing machines in the village. Sherman Mayor Trevor Caltfelter says while he is personally opposed to gambling, the village board’s decision Tuesday to allow the machines for a test run was fiscally responsible.
“I’ve never had anybody come to me that they were overwhelmingly in expansion of gambling in the community except for one business owner who says we want to try this out” says Clatfelter
Last year, the village board voted to allow four establishments to install the terminals. Trustees decided to grant the licenses and will review the ordinance in June of next year.
