For many children, new shoes are just a way of life but, for 90 kids at Enos Elementary School new shoes are a luxury. Medical students from the SIU School of Medicine donated at least 90 pairs of shoes for students at Enos and faculty member Florene Brooks says it is a big deal for the kids.
“Many of the students come in to school with worn shoes so we were glad to help those students who were in need” says Brooks.
The medical students helped the kids pick out the proper size. The shoes were provided from area stores from donations provided by SIU alumni and faculty. Enos was adopted several years ago by the neighboring SIU and medical students hold a number of fund raisers for Enos students and their families each year.
