First the students received a brand new school and now kids who attend Matheny-Withrow Elementary School have brand new fitness equipment. St. John’s Children’s Hospital President Peggy Curtin helped cut the ribbon to the new fitness area outside the school Friday. She says the hospital’s partnership with Springfield School District 186 is an extension of the Children’s Hospital’s mission.
“It is not about kids coming to our hospital. It is about promoting healthiness in the community in everything we do” says Curtin.
Matheny-Winthrow School is serving as a model school for Project Fit America, a national public charity dedicated to get kids in shape and promoting healthy habits. The hospital donated the equipment.
