Illinois State Senator Andy Manar (D-Bunker Hill) says a bill he filed Thursday to keep Archer-Daniel Midlands’ corporate headquarters in Illinois could also lead to replacement jobs to be lost in Decatur. Lawmakers in both chambers of the general assembly are responding to ADM’s September announcement they are moving their corporate jobs out of Decatur.
Not only does Manar’s legislation provide incentives to keep ADM in the state but would also provide incentives to bring ADM functions from other states to Decatur to back-fill those jobs.
“It is abundantly clear that Illinois faces major challenges. Illinois’ unemployment rate is 9.2 percent-two points higher than the national average.”
Manar also wants to form a job task force create more downstate jobs by promoting ADM’s new Midwest Inland Portal intermodal facility. Three class one railroads intersect in Decatur.
