More information is going to be available to used car buyers, in the form of a label indicating emissions and fuel economy.
Illinois Automobile Dealers Association president Pete Sander says this is an initiative of the U. S. Department of Energy and EPA.
“It’s optional, and it is voluntary, to be used by used vehicle sellers. The labels can be printed and downloaded,” says Sander. “I think, from an industry standpoint, it’s a great idea, because probably the No. 1 thing that people look at … is the type of fuel economy they can expect.”
The risk in buying a used car, Sander says, has gone down. For one thing, many used car dealers are also new car dealers with a reputation on the line. Also, cars are better built these days to begin with.
