The rift over pension reform continues.
House Speaker Michael Madigan has completely gutted the Senate bill and rewritten it with language identical to the one that’s already passed in the House… the bill that failed in the Senate before session wrapped up.
Madigan’s move is a show of strong-arming both Governor Pat Quinn and Senate President John Cullerton. Quinn has asked the two leaders to combine their bills and let the courts decide which is best.
Cullerton is plans to do that when lawmakers return to session next Wednesday, but Madigan says it’s too complicated.
