Lincoln Tomb Set for Repairs 19 Months Late

Abraham Lincoln’s Tomb in Springfield’s Oak Ridge Cemetery is finally getting $700,000 worth of upgrades — more than a year and a half after the project was first announced.

Illinois Historic Preservation Agency spokesman Chris Wills says repairs should get underway in October and could take up to six months.

“We’re telling the (Springfield) Convention and Visitors Bureau… don’t schedule any groups to come and visit the Tomb during those months, because it might be closed,” says Wills.

While the tomb’s interior will be closed, the grounds will not be — which means Lincoln’s nose can still be rubbed and people can still visit.
