Lang Drops Sponsorship of Gambling Expansion Bill
Lang Drops Sponsorship of Gambling Expansion Bill

State Rep. Lou Lang (D-Skokie)┬áis stepping down as chief sponsor of the gaming bill, claiming there’s a possible conflict of interest.

He says there’s a conflict of interest between the law firm he works for, Odelson and Sterk,. and his sponsorship of the bill. Another state rep is taking over as chief sponsor, but the fact that Lang is stepping aside is raising questions, especially when the bill could be called in the House any day now.

Lang released a statement saying a client of the law firm could be affected by the measure if it’s passed. He says he hasn’t done any legal work with the client, and that his jobs as both an attorney and state rep have always been ethical.

State Rep. Robert Rita is now the new chief sponsor of the bill, which would add five casinos across the state plus slot machines at race tracks.
