Sangamon County will see more highway improvements through the Illinois Jobs Now program. I-72 will be milled and resurfaced from a mile and a half east of County Highway 34 to the Macon County line. Gov. Quinn’s spokesman David Blanchette says the 10.8 million dollar project means more than just smooth roads.
“Also, secondarily and very important is that it’s creating good paying construction jobs while the workers are hired to perform these projects. So it’s a win-win situation in that we’re taking care of our infrastructure needs while providing very good employment opportunities for Illinois residents”
Blanchette says the work will be done by R. A. Cullinan out of Tremont. Construction is expected to start at the end of the summer and be completed by the end of the year.
