A sign in front of the old Kmart on MacArthur announcing that HyVee is coming soon is a sign of progress.
Ward 7 Alderman Joe McMenamin says the project managers from HyVee met with Halverson Construction last week. McMenamin says Halverson will have the area surrounded by a fence soon as work begins.
“We’re really close to the point where they’ll be moving ground around and they’ll be removing asbestos from the old bowling alley there,” says McMenamin. “The site will start looking different before long.”
When completed, the grocery store will include several green spaces across the parking lot and a new gas station. The new HyVee is expected to open by summer 2014.
