Two major Springfield companies are looking to occupy some vacant space downtown.
Horace Mann and St. John’s Hospital are reportedly looking to fill the space with executive offices. Brant Mackey, editor and publisher of the Springfield Business Journal, says this will help downtown businesses affected by the loss of state offices.
“We’re going to have those employees coming downtown every day, seeing the downtown, eating downtown, being aware of what’s going on downtown,” says Mackey. “That only helps strengthen things.”
Mackey says there are thousands of vacant square feet the two businesses can choose from as they expand, but it’s unclear where they’re looking or if a deal is imminent.
Mackey made his comments for the weekly “Springfield Business Journal Report,” which airs Saturday mornings at 8:10 on WTAX.
