Questions, comments and concerns will all be addressed on the High-Speed Rail during an open meeting in Springfield.
The Illinois Department of Transportation will be in attendance to address the Springfield portion of the High-Speed Rail. The meeting will mostly center around the Springfield 3rd Street corridor, which officials say construction will begin there soon.
IDOT’s Joe Schacter says it’s a three-part strategy, where part one is the 3rd Street corridor. Safety concerns will be the focus of this project.
“We need to have faster travel on 3rd Street for the amount of time 3rd Street is there.”
Schacter says 20 grade crossings and three bridges will help make the area safer. The second part of the strategy involves a flyover bridge between the Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern Railway south of town. The third part involves the entire reconstruction of the 10th Street corridor.
The Tuesday meeting is from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Springfield Hilton with a brief presentation at 5:30 p.m. to address concerns and questions on the project.
